MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. – A woman waist deep in a waterway was bitten by an alligator and momentarily pulled under the surface on Wednesday in Martin County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 27-year-old woman was with her boyfriend and their dog when they took a boat out on the South Fork River near SW Linden Street, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

The alligator bit the woman’s wrist and hand while she was in the water with the dog, pulling her under before releasing her, the post states.

The boyfriend drove the woman to the boat ramp at Charlie Leighton Park, the sheriff’s office said.

First responders airlifted the woman to the hospital as a precaution, according to the post. The boyfriend and the dog were not injured, the post states.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has since responded and was waiting for its trapper to locate the alligator as of around 9 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
