APOPKA, Fla. – An Apopka man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after he “promised” over Facebook to hurt the city mayor, according to the police department.
In an arrest affidavit, police said they were tipped off about the threat earlier this week, discovering they stemmed from 64-year-old Hector Cartagena.
However, police explained that the threat was being sent to someone else via private Facebook messages.
In one message, Cartagena reportedly wrote to Mayor Bryan Nelson that he would “feel the warmth of my steel blade as I aerate his Esophagus.”
On Wednesday, police said they responded to a home along Pavia Drive shortly before 1 a.m., when Cartagena was taken into custody.
“Cartagena had a black knife that was worn around his neck when contact with him was made outside of his home,” the affidavit reads.
Now, Cartagena faces charges of written/electronic threat of harm, threat of harm to an elected official, and aggravated stalking with a credible threat. He is held without bond.
