TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags at half-staff on Friday as he declared a new “day” in the state, according to his office.
In a news release, officials with DeSantis’ office announced that the declaration would honor Florida resident and “legendary professional wrestler” Terry Bollea, who passed away on July 24.
As a result, flags will be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, as well as all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Pinellas County from sunrise to sunset.

Furthermore, DeSantis revealed that Aug. 1 will be known as “Hulk Hogan Day in Florida” as a tribute to Bollea’s iconic stage name.
“His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the ‘Hulkster’ was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s, as well as today,” the release reads. “He was a true Floridian through and through.”
