VIDEO: Florida police sergeant who was shot in the face walks out of hospital

Port St. Lucie police Sgt. Erik Levasseur was shot in December

PORT St. LUCIE, Fla. – A Port St. Lucie police sergeant who was shot in the face about a month ago recently walked out of a hospital.

New video shared Friday by the Port St. Lucie Police Department shows 27-year veteran Sgt. Erik Levasseur leaving that hospital arm-in-arm with his wife while surrounded by applauding onlookers.

Levasseur was in critical condition after being shot in the face Dec. 1, 2025, by a suspect with an assault rifle, according to News 6 partner Local 10 News.

Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said the suspect was then killed in an exchange of gunfire with the officers that they had ambushed, all of this occurring during a what was described as neighbor dispute involving mental-health.

Levasseur was placed in a medically-induced coma and no other officers were injured, Local 10 reported.

The police department has shared several updates since then, with one in mid-December stating Levasseur was awake again but no longer had vision and was mulling potential reconstruction surgery to his face.

The latest update on sergeant’s recovery came on social media, when the agency shared new remarks along with video of Levasseur and his wife as they left the hospital.

“Here’s to Sgt. Eric Levasseur and his wife who was there every step of the way—a reminder that sometimes, the quiet moments are the loudest, and love is the bravest journey of all,” one of the posts state.
