Florida couple rescued after boat breaks free during Hurricane Nicole
FORT PIERCE, Fla. — First responders in St. Lucie County helped rescue a couple and their pets Wednesday night after hurricane-force winds lodged their boat under a causeway. Snow called 911, and several St. Lucie County Fire District units responded to the marine emergency. Firefighters launched a rescue boat from a nearby ramp and caught up with the vessel, which had run aground on a sandbar, according to WPEC. “Our biggest challenge was is our vessel and their vessel from deck to deck was about a 5-foot difference. We had to basically help to lower her down into ours,” St. Lucie County firefighter Lt. Shane Kozac told WPTV.

In her statement to school officials, Darling Lundy allegedly said that the student was “acting in a playful manner and not following instruction,” WPTV reported. Darling Lundy was fired from her job at Forest Grove Middle School, a St. Lucie Public Schools spokesperson told WPTV.

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Police said the three people found dead in a car at a Melbourne apartment complex were identified as a woman and her two 3-year-old children. Police said Andrea Langhorst, 35, of St. Lucie County, and her two 3-year-old children, Olivia and Adam Dryer, were found dead inside a car at the Manatee Cove Apartments complex in the 700 block of Madelyn Way around 10:50 p.m. Sunday. Detectives said the family appears to have been living transiently out of the vehicle along the east coast of Florida. ST. LUCIS COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Fish and Wildlife are searching for whoever painted a gopher tortoise’s shell pink, to bring them to justice. FWC said at least two tortoises have been reported painted and they found and rescued one. READ: Florida family finds iguana swimming in toiletThe tortoise was recovered in St. Lucie County with bright pink paint on its shell and head. FWC said the tortoise was taken to an authorized facility to remove the paint. A second gopher tortoise with a painted shell was also reported but has not yet been found, officials said.
