2 dead, 1 injured in Volusia County motorcycle crash, FHP says

FHP: 1 person remains in serious condition

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were killed in Volusia County Friday afternoon in a motorcycle crash and a third was seriously injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Anthony Petro, 52, of Orlando, was riding his motorcycle north on Tomoka Farms Road just before 3:30 p.m. as 61-year-old Ronald Ackley and 54-year-old Susan Cox, both of Eustis, were riding theirs in the southbound direction.

Petro rode into the southbound lanes and hit Ackley's motorcycle head-on, troopers said. Cox, who was riding behind Ackley, was unable to avoid the crash and slammed into the back of Ackley's motorcycle, the FHP said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, troopers said. Cox was taken to Halifax Hospital, where she was in critical condition.

Troopers said the crash was still being investigated.
