1 dead, 1 hospitalized after gas leak at Orlando apartment complex

One person has died and another was hospitalized after a gas leak at the Jackson Court Apartments on Saturday, according to the Orlando Fire Department.

Police said Saturday’s hazmat situation was discovered after a wellness check when gas was burning on the stove inside of a unit here for hours.

After elevated carbon monoxide readings, 36 units were evacuated, authorities said.

The Orlando Police Department said the leak was caused from a burner on a stove that was left on high for more than 24 hours.

The cause of the death is unknown, authorities said. Police said the person transported to the hospital is expected to recover.

Greg Dupree lives nearby and saw the aftermath.

“I was like wow,” Dupree said. “I just saw a couple of police cars down at Division and Church.”
