2 dead in Brightline train collision at Melbourne crossing; 2nd fatal wreck there in as many days

Double fatal wreck happened in area of South Harbor City Boulevard, W.H. Jackson Street

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Two people died Friday in a collision with a Brightline train in Melbourne, the same railroad crossing where another deadly crash happened two days ago, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The wreck happened at the crossing near South Harbor City Boulevard and W.H. Jackson Street, according to fire crews.

Melbourne police identified the deceased driver as Lisa Ann Batchelder, 52, of Melbourne. The passenger in the vehicle who died was 54-year-old Michael Anthony Degasperi of Melbourne.

The same railroad crossing was the scene of another deadly crash on Wednesday when an SUV with four people inside collided with a Brightline train. The driver in that crash was killed and the others inside the vehicle, including a child, were hurt.

Melbourne police said the driver was 62-year-old Charles Julian Phillips. The three passengers were 48-year-old Keisha Belingei Gonzalez, 44-year-old Terricha Culbreth and a 9-year-old.

No one else was in the vehicle.

The crash is still under investigation. Melbourne police ask that people with any information should call Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Koubek at 321-608-6731.
