DeLand shooting victim found in trunk of suspect’s car, police say

Travis McBride, 46, arrested Thursday morning

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A person is in custody after a man’s body was found in a DeLand neighborhood Thursday morning, according to police.

Investigators were called about a suspicious incident around 7:06 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 100 block of S. Frankfort Ave.

During the investigation, police said they located Clinton Dorsey, 51, who had been shot and killed inside the trunk of a car near the intersections of Frankfort Avenue and New York Avenue.

“Once we got to the area, we located some shell casings from a firearm and located some blood in the street,” said Capt. Prurince Dice with DeLand police.

The DeLand police chief said while canvassing the area, detectives noticed Travis McBride, 46, who was walking near the scene. During questioning, police determined McBride was the suspect.

“We believe there was an ongoing dispute between McBride and our victim. I don’t know if they knew each other, but they knew of each other. It unfortunately ended in one man’s death,” said DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger.

Police said the car where the victim was found actually belonged to McBride.

McBride is charged with first degree premeditated murder and is being held in the Volusia County jail without bond.
