SANFORD, Fla. – Sanford Police are searching for a driver who seriously injured a bicyclist in a hit-and-run crash.
It happened Jan. 24 just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of 25th Street and Park Avenue. The driver left the scene without rendering aid or providing information.
Shaun Locascio says he doesn’t remember much about what happened.
“I remember saying goodbye and then waking up in the hospital,” said Locascio.

Locascio had spent the evening learning how to deal cards to earn some extra income. He planned to ride home on his e-bike when he was hit.
“I know I had my bike a couple blocks away, chained up with a chain, but I don’t remember taking the chain off. I don’t remember leaving,” said Locascio.
Sanford Police responded to a 911 call that night from a woman who had stopped to help. Locascio believes she saved his life.
“She kind of deflected cars from running over me again, and kind of got help,” said Locascio.
Locascio now has a broken knee and a broken femur. He says he has had two surgeries and will need at least six weeks to recover.
“All I know is that my bills are mounting up, and insurance companies keep calling me,” said Locascio. “It’s changed my life. Financially, physically, everything has changed. Right now, I can’t do anything.”
Locascio’s sister has set up a GoFundMe to help with those bills.
Sanford Police say witnesses described the vehicle as a dark in color pickup truck that left heading westbound on 25th Street.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimeline.org.
Locascio is also encouraging people to come forward with information. He hopes the person responsible will do the right thing.
“Hopefully the person does find time in their life to figure things out and let us know or let somebody know what happened so we can all pick up our pieces and build back what we can build back,” said Locascio.
