2 Brevard County schools closed due to power outage

Power failure caused schools to lose chiller, district officials said

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Two Brevard County schools will be closed on Thursday due to a power outage, according to the school district.

In a release, district officials said that Southwest Middle School experienced a power failure on Wednesday evening, which forced it to be closed on Thursday.

In addition, the outage caused the air conditioning at Turner Elementary School to be “lost,” meaning it will also be closed, the release says.

“The schools are next to each other and share a chiller, which cools the schools,” the release reads.

District officials said that crews are working to make repairs, but the work will not be completed before the start of the school day on Thursday.
