HOLLY HILL, Fla. – A third Holly Hill police officer has been suspended amid an investigation into the department for allegations about “inappropriate incidents”.

According to city manager Joe Forte, effective Wednesday morning, Sgt. Tom Bently has been placed on paid leave in accordance with the police officer’s bill of rights. Bently’s leave follows the suspension of Capt. Christopher Yates and Sgt. Shannon Fountain.

Last month, Jeffrey Miller resigned from his role as police chief. Forte wrote that the search for a replacement began last Friday.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said he couldn’t comment on Miller’s resignation, though he explained that the sheriff’s office will “100%” support Holly Hill in a law enforcement capacity until the leadership situation is resolved.

News 6 reached out to Miller for comment and is awaiting a response.

In the meantime, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Holly Hill Police Department while it’s understaffed.

Details of the allegations have not been revealed.

News 6 received a copy of Miller’s resignation letter on Friday. You can read it below.
