Commissioner listens to concerns after deadly gas explosion in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County District 6 Commissioner Michael Scott hosted community members and county leaders on Wednesday to address concerns following an apartment gas explosion.

Orange County Fire Rescue said one person was killed following an apparent gas explosion inside a unit at the Woodhill Apartments on the morning on March 1.

Scott encouraged residents to bring their complaints directly to the county if the property management doesn’t address their maintenance concerns.

“I definitely want to understand what the concerns are. Even if it’s not a gas leak — maybe something else — we are here to serve you,” Scott said to the audience.

Jacqueline Young attended the meeting and showed video of what she claimed to be black mold inside her apartment at the complex.

“There’s a hot water heater that’s leaked, and my laundry room is soaked with black mold and cracked surfaces,” Young said.

Lake Apopka Natural Gas said they’ve been called to the complex about 50 times in the past year.
