‘We will find you:’ Florida pizza shop scammed while helping student hurt in crash

Caller ordered $500 worth of pizzas from WiseGuys Pizzeria, never paid

OCALA, Fla. – An Ocala pizza shop was scammed out of $500 while fundraising for a high school student who was injured in a car crash, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

WiseGuys Pizzeria on Wednesday was raising money to help a North Marion High School student who is recovering in a hospital, according to deputies. The shop was donating 20% of the proceeds to the student and her family.

The sheriff’s office said someone ordered $500 worth of pizzas at Wiseguys Pizzeria and never showed up to pick up or pay for the order.

“The callback number was not going through and they soon realized they had been scammed. This cruel act affects not just their business, but also the fundraising efforts for the student and her family,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

While the sheriff’s office investigates, they are asking the community to show support and “help out both the establishment and the NMHS student and her family in their time of need.”

“To the person responsible for this order, know that our detectives are investigating, and we will find you,” the post reads.

Hundreds of comments were made on the sheriff’s office post praising the pizza shop and calling for the community to continue supporting the business.

“Ordered! Remember to mention the fundraiser and be mindful that it may be a longer wait than usual for your food! The girl said they’ve received a lot of calls and were busier due to the fundraiser,” one person wrote.
