Despite ongoing investigation, former Orlando commissioner Regina Hill to seek reelection

ORLANDO, Fla. – Regina Hill, the former Orlando city commissioner who is accused of exploiting an elderly woman, announced on Wednesday that she plans to seek reelection to get her seat back.

Hill posted the announcement on social media saying in part, “After much reflection, prayer and supplication in response to the enthusiastic requests of many community members, I’ve decided on this day, the beginning of LENT to submit my paperwork to officially run for Reelection for office as the commissioner of District 5 to continue serving my beloved District 5.″

Hill, is accused of exploiting a 96-year-old woman, a constituent, out of more than $100,000 and using the woman’s identity to help secure a $428,000 mortgage for a home in Orlando.

She was arrested in March 2024 by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Hill’s criminal trial was set for Jan. 27, 2025, but was postponed after her attorney said they needed another four to five weeks for depositions.

A pre-trial hearing is set for April 29.

Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Hill, a former District 5 city commissioner, from office, leading to a heated special election for her seat.

In June 2024, Shaniqua Rose beat Travaris McCurdy in a runoff election to replace Hill. Rose was sworn in on June 23, 2024.

Rose told News 6 on Wednesday that she plans to seek reelection herself, saying, “I filed to run for re-election in July 2024; our community deserves a leader who will continue to fight for honesty, integrity, and real change. I will continue to listen, take action, and put the people of District 5 first.”

According to court records, Hill is accused of obtaining a $428,000 mortgage for a home located on Domino Drive in Orlando.

In addition, Hill is accused of using more than $100,000 of the woman’s money for things like cosmetic surgery, intravenous vitamin treatments and more.
