BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Office supplies from Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital won’t be going to waste following the facility’s closure earlier this week, according to Orlando Health.

Team members with the healthcare organization spent Thursday loading up the supplies so that they can be donated to Brevard Public Schools, an Orlando Health news release states.

The final count came to more than 150 boxes of supplies transported in 11 vehicles to The Supply Zone for Teachers in Cocoa, a nonprofit which provides free supplies for teachers and serves all 85 Brevard public schools, according to the release. Colored paper, cardstock, pens, markers, binders, folders and bulletin board supplies were included in the haul, Orlando Health said.

Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital closed on Tuesday after 84 years.

Orlando Health had taken over operations last year, communicating its plans to close it up by stating the hospital was in such bad shape that it would be cheaper to build a whole new facility, rather than make repairs.

The nonprofit healthcare company Health First — which currently operates Brevard County’s only Level II trauma center, that being Holmes Regional Medical Center — has since announced it’s fast-tracking efforts to build two new freestanding emergency departments in the county, stating the haste is in response to the closure in Rockledge.
