According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy performed a traffic stop Wednesday night when a driver made an illegal turn.
“It was a minor infraction, with a major outcome,” the Polk County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.
The deputy learned that Pardo-Acevedo had an outstanding warrant out of Osceola County and arrested him, officials said.
Kissimmee police said the arrest stems from a fatal shooting that happened May 10 on North Central Avenue.
Police said an investigation into the shooting showed that the victim had been in an argument that escalated, leading to the gunfire.
“Following diligent investigative efforts, the suspect was identified as Melvin Rafael Pardo-Acevedo,” Kissimmee police said in a statement.
“We are proud of the efforts made by our officers, detectives, and all law enforcement partners involved in this investigation,” said Charles Broadway, Kissimmee chief of police. “We remain committed to ensuring justice for our community.”
