Appeals court hears case of 3 ex-cops charged in Floyd death
The Minnesota Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Thursday on whether three former Minneapolis police officers charged in George Floyd 's death should face an additional count of aiding and abetting third-degree murder. Thomas Lane, J. Kueng and Tou Thao are scheduled to face trial next March on charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter. The FBI affidavit says the wife had visible marks and scrapes on her face. The FBI affidavit also says Sikes was charged earlier this month with a domestic violence charge of aggravated assault with a firearm involving his wife. The FBI affidavit says Sikes' wife told rangers he had held her in captivity for days and that he was going to kill her.
2 adults found dead in Altamonte Springs home with 2 children inside
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Two adults were found dead in a home Wednesday in what appears to be a murder-suicide, according to Altamonte Springs police. Officers said two children were also found unharmed. Officers also made contact with the two children inside the home and said they were not hurt. The friend asked Zoltan Papp if he was OK and received a reply of, “Yes, I love you,” according to the affidavit. Man suspected of killing 4 in fight over stimulus check
It says that Halfacre told officers following his arrest Sunday evening that he and his girlfriend — identified only as “J.M." — “were arguing because he wanted some of her stimulus check." Wendy Johnson, a cousin of Halfacre’s girlfriend, told WXIN-TV that the day before the shootings Halfacre demanded half of his girlfriend’s $1,400 pandemic stimulus check, but her cousin refused. “She had just got her money, and he wanted half of her money,” she told the station, citing what her cousin had said after the encounter. Officers later found Halfacre in the attic of a friend's home about 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) from the shooting scene, police said.
Father, son accused of murdering St. Cloud woman appear in court
Cloud woman were back in court Friday morning following several motions filed ahead of the trial. A motion hearing is scheduled for Christopher Otero-Rivera and his father Angel Rivera, both of whom are facing murder charges in the death of Otero-Rivera’s estranged wife, Nicole Montalvo. The state also filled a motion to exclude evidence of Montalvo’s request to modify a temporary injunction against Otero-Rivera. The judge denied a motion to exclude evidence that either defendant had a firearm or other weapon, another motion will be revisited. AdThe father and son are due back in court March 23 for a pre-trial hearing at 9 a.m.

Man charged with fatally shooting 28-year-old man at Altamonte Springs apartment
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A 26-year-old man is charged with shooting and killing his friend at an Altamonte Springs apartment Tuesday during an argument, according to arrest records and police. Officer responded to the Destiny Springs Condominiums off Wymore Road on Tuesday at 10 p.m. after the victim’s girlfriend called 911. When they arrived, officers found the front door ajar and found the victim, Zachary Duarte, 28, on the floor unresponsive. At that time, Cruz-Vargas shot Duarte in the chest with a handgun. Investigators said Cruz-Vargas was not acting in self defense when he shot Duarte.
2 arrested after man shot to death in Mount Dora
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Two men were arrested Thursday on murder charges in connection to the June shooting death of a 27-year-old in Mount Dora, officials said. Lake County sheriff’s deputies said Tevin Williams died in the shooting, which occurred June 19. Benn told investigators that he was involved in Williams' shooting death, saying he and two others planned to rob Williams, the affidavit stated. Williams tried to drive away but Benn said he held the car door open and Murrell shot Williams, according to authorities. Benn and Murrell were later arrested.
American charged with aggravated murder of wife in France
LE PECQ A Brooklyn man who told French police investigators that he killed his wife by stabbing her twice during an argument, has been charged with her murder, a prosecutor said Monday. Kruger was placed under formal investigation Sunday on a preliminary charge of aggravated murder and ordered held in jail, pending a possible trial. The body of his wife, 52-year-old Laure Bardina-Kruger, was found Friday in Peyriac-de-Mer, on the Mediterranean coast, south of Narbonne. The couple had a holiday home in Peyriac-de-Mer, and police found the wifes body hidden in the storm drain nearby. During police questioning, the man said he stabbed his wife twice, the prosecutor said.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. The case against convicted killer Markeith Loyd will go before a judge Monday in Orange County. Loyd is currently awaiting trial in the slaying of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton. The trial was scheduled to begin in May but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Loyds attorney is expected to hold a conference call with prosecutors and the judge to discuss a motion involving legal fees. Loyd is serving a life sentence for murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, in 2016.

Brief hearing held for man charged in slaying of estranged wife in St. Cloud
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A court hearing was held Tuesday morning for a man linked to the slaying of his estranged wife in St. A status hearing was conducted for Christopher Otero-Rivera, who’s charged with failing to report the death of Nicole Montalvo. Osceola County sheriff’s officials say Otero-Rivera killed Montalvo, 32, in October and buried her remains at his family’s home. Otero-Rivera remains jailed for violating probation. The state, however, filed a response saying the clock started on Dec. 16, when the charge for failure to report a death was filed.
New charge filed against estranged husband of slain St. Cloud woman
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The estranged husband of a slain Osceola County woman faced a judge Tuesday after sheriff’s officials filed a new charge against him. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office has charged Christopher Otero-Rivera with failing to report the death of Nicole Montalvo. During that hearing, a judge set his bond at $3,000. Later on Tuesday, Otero-Rivera appeared before a different judge regarding his violation of probation charge. The trial for Otero-Rivera’s violation of probation charges is set for January 21.
