Person of interest detained in Jacksonville after 17-year-old shot, killed in Marion County, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that a person of interest was detained in Jacksonville following a shooting that afternoon near Irvine which left a 17-year-old dead.

Deputies responded around 2:24 p.m. to a shooting reported at the Petro on Highway 318 near Interstate 75, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

Arriving deputies located a person who had been shot and was soon taken to the hospital by Marion County Fire Rescue, the post states.

Deputies later announced that the victim — identified Saturday as Nosiah Santos, 17 — died from his injuries.

The sheriff’s office initially described the victim as an adult male and has since removed the word “adult” from its social media thread on the matter.

“Detectives have determined that an altercation at the gas pumps led to the shooting,” the post states.

The sheriff’s office later Friday announced that a person of interest had been detained in Jacksonville.

No additional information has been provided at this time.
