DUNNELLON, Fla. – A boil water notice issued Friday in Dunnellon affects some 1,174 Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) customers, according to the provider.

Text messages and phone calls were scheduled to be sent to said customers, who are advised to heed the following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

(Bring) water used for cooking or drinking to a rolling boil for one minute before using. This will remove any possible active viruses or bacteria that may have entered the lines during the improvements, alternatively bottled water may be used.

The outage was caused by a power surge during severe weather which tripped a breaker and resulted in a loss of water service that has since been restored, the FGUA said in a news release.

The advisory will be lifted only when water samples taken to a certified laboratory indicate that the water is safe to drink, the release states.
