ORLANDO, Fla. – A teacher fired by Bishop Moore Catholic High School was arrested Thursday, accused of inappropriately touching a student, according to Orlando police.
Jared Tatum, 31, faces charges of lewd touching of certain minors and attempted sexual battery on a victim over 12, the Orlando Police Department said in a news release.
Police described Tatum as the student’s tutor, as well as an engineering teacher at Bishop Moore.
On May 7, a student told the school that Tatum inappropriately touched her during a tutoring session, according to the release.
Tatum was a teacher at the school until his termination on May 16, according to a Bishop Moore spokesperson.
The school terminated Tatum after contacting the police, the release states, adding that Tatum’s arrest by the police department’s Fugitive Investigative Unit followed “interviews, collected statements, and DNA results.”
There’s no evidence of additional victims at the time of this report, police said.
News 6 reached out to the Diocese of Orlando for comment. In a statement, they said, “Jared Tatum was a teacher at Bishop Moore High School until May 16, 2025, when he was terminated for inappropriate interactions and conduct with a student.”
