Man run over, killed in Apopka while seeking shelter from storm underneath vehicle

Police say driver does not face criminal charges

APOPKA, Fla. – A 53-year-old man was run over and killed in Apopka while seeking shelter from a storm underneath a vehicle in a parking lot, police said.

Apopka police said Daniel J. Hodge was killed early Monday, and no criminal charges are being pursued against the driver.

Police said Hodge climbed under a commercial vehicle in the overnight hours as a storm was overhead.

About an hour later, the driver arrived to the parking lot and departed, unaware that Hodge was under the trailer, according to police.

Hodge sustained fatal injuries as the vehicle exited the parking lot, police said.

No other details have been released.
