Did you know Casselberry has its own improv troupe?

Casselberry Recreation Center home to The Corner Gallery

CASSELBERRY, Fla. – Casselberry’s Secret Lake Park has it all: scenic nature, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds for kids, and even a weekly improv comedy show that transforms the recreation center into a laughter-filled comedy club every Friday night.

The Corner Gallery, a local improv troupe, presents their unscripted performances at the Casselberry Recreation Center, bringing a fresh entertainment option to the community.

Their signature show, “Diamond in the Rough,” has comedians compete for audience applause. Think “Whose Line is it Anyway?” style games, songs, and exercises.

“Tonight is our award-winning Diamond in the Rough show,” says Zane Ertel, who founded The Corner Gallery 6 years ago. “It’s a short-form improv show where people compete against each other to figure out who is the diamond.”

The shows emphasize audience participation, creating an interactive entertainment experience different from traditional theatrical performances. Beyond weekly shows, the group extends their impact through improv classes held every Wednesday at the recreation center.

Ertel emphasizes that improv training offers benefits beyond entertainment. “Whether it’s public speaking or just listening better, those classes really emphasize skills to not only improve your performance but also improve your life and those interpersonal relationships,” he says.

The Corner Gallery, proud members of the Casselberry Chamber of Commerce, partnered with the City of Casselberry to perform and teach at the recreation center. For Casselberry officials, it’s a way to support local arts and foster community connections. The recreation center’s transformation into a comedy venue represents an innovative use of public space.

“Come play with us, come hang out with us, take our classes,” says Taylor, another member of the troupe. “We love to expand our community and open new doors for people.”

The shows take place every Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Casselberry Recreation Center, located at 200 N. Triplet Lake Drive.

The venue also offers improv classes on Wednesdays for those interested in developing their skills.
