Self-swab testing kiosk opens in Seminole County
CASSELBERRY, Fla. – Seminole County has partnered with Curative to open self-swab testing locations throughout the community. Seminole County Emergency Management officials said the test is free. “It’s so convenient for folks just to drive up even during their lunch hour, after work, before work,” said Aaron Funk, with Seminole County. The kiosk at Red Bug Lake Park is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. AdThe second Curative kiosk is set to open on March 22 at the Museum of Seminole County History.
‘We can handle this right now:’ Man accused of shooting victim during fight outside Casselberry strip club
CASSELBERRY, Fla. – A man accused of shooting someone during a fight outside a strip club last month has been taken into custody on an attempted murder charge, according to the Casselberry Police Department. Police said the shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 16 in the parking lot for Rachel’s North Men’s Club and Steakhouse. Police said the shooting happened moments later and afterward, Moran Zarco fled in a Dodge Ram. Records show two shell casings were found at the scene but it’s unclear how many times the victim was shot. Moran Zarco was arrested early Wednesday morning on a second-degree attempted murder charge.
Casselberry man wins $2 million in Mega Millions drawing
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A Casselberry man is now a millionaire. Kenneith Rose won $2 million in a Mega Millions drawing on Jan. 19, according to the Florida Lottery. He matched five of the white ball numbers but did not match the Mega Ball. Lottery officials said he purchased the ticket at the Publix on U.S. 17/92 in Casselberry. AdThe next Mega Millions will be held on Tuesday with an estimated jackpot of $42 million.
Casselberry Vice Mayor won’t step down after controversial comments day before Capitol riots
CASSELBERRY, Fla. – The Casselberry City Commission met on Monday to discuss recent controversy involving the City’s Vice Mayor Mark Busch. Vice Mayor and commissioner Mark Busch said that he has spoken with several members of the community in the past couple of weeks and would like to create a community forum. Busch also voted to remove himself from serving on any committees, however, he said he does not plan on resigning from the commission. The city commission also considered a motion to hire a private attorney to collect the fact and present them to the board. However, since the board does not have the authority to remove Busch, it was determined to tax dollars would be best spent elsewhere.

Seminole County health officials partner with faith organizations to provide vaccines in churches
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Using mobile units, Seminole County Emergency Director Alan Harris said health officials will soon begin vaccinating at faith organizations. The goal is to focus on faith organizations in communities that are low-income, fixed-income or transportation-disadvantaged. So far, 48 churches have partnered with Seminole County, willing to open up their sanctuaries and empty fellowship halls as points of distribution. Pastor Andre’ Martin, Jr. said his church has worked with Seminole County health officials to provide other health screenings, like blood pressure and diabetes screenings at his church in years past. “There aren’t that many services in this specific area of the county,” Martin said Friday.
Woman runs to neighbor’s house to call 911 after deadly Casselberry shooting, police say

Officers say they were called to Carlisle Drive around 8:25 a.m. after a woman in her early 20s was shot in the arm. She ran to a neighbor’s home and called 911 after the shooting, police say. Man arrested in road rage shooting off Red Bug Lake Road near Casselberry
CASSELBERRY, Fla. – A 34-year-old Fern Park man was arrested on allegations of shooting at another vehicle off Red Bug Lake Road in Seminole County, according to deputies. The road rage shooting took place around 8:20 p.m. Thursday near Red Bug Lake Road and Merivale Drive. According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, a man driving a red Jeep Wrangler said the driver of a white SUV shot at his vehicle and took off toward State Road 436. The Jeep driver said he left the scene because he didn’t want to get into trouble, and he didn’t want to press charges, according to the sheriff’s report. The driver of the SUV, identified as Garey Graham, said the Jeep cut him off and a road rage incident ensued, the report stated.
Teenage swimmer gets caught in rip current at Volusia County beach
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. – A teenage swimmer was rescued Friday afternoon after he got caught in a rip current in Daytona Beach Shores, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. Officials said it was red flag conditions and the 17-year-old boy was swimming in an unguarded area at about noon when he started to struggle. As of 5 p.m., the boy was still receiving treatment. CASSELBERRY, Fla. – Casselberry police are investigating racial slurs found in a portable bathroom at a construction site. On Wednesday, Tiquanna Oliver said just before she took a break during her shift at a construction site on Lake Drive in Casselberry, she stopped to use the restroom. So I turn around and that is when I saw it.”The n-word and other markings including “black lives splatter” were found in the portable bathroom. Oliver was working as an electrician on the site and said she works among various subcontractors and vendors. Oliver said the general contractor of the site MEC contractors worked promptly to remedy and address the problem.

Vincent Labarba of Casselberry scratched his way to the top $1 million prize on The Fastest Road to $1,000,000 Scratch-off game, Florida Lottery officials announced. The winning scratch-off was sold at Wilshire Marathon at 815 Semoran Boulevard in Casselberry. The scratch-off costs $30 and has overall odds of winning of 1 in 2.79, according to lottery officials. Florida Lottery offices have reopened to the public by appointment for players with prizes valued over $5,000.
Man impersonating officer attempted to pull over off-duty Orlando police officer, officials say
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A man accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer was arrested after officials said the man pulled over an off duty cop. Forde told authorities he drove up behind the BMW, which appeared to be swerving, and activated his emergency lights and siren, officials said. In the body camera video, Forde told police he thought the other driver was impaired. When Forde pulled alongside the BMW, the officer said Forde was dressed in a way that resembled a law enforcement uniform. In the body camera video, Forde told police he was not trying to impersonate an officer.
Largest early voting site in Seminole County to open in East Altamonte
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. With nearly 328,000 registered voters, Seminole County Supervisor of Elections is expecting a large turnout for early voting during the general election. The data says that our Casselberry location, gets twice as many early voting votes than any other voting site in Seminole County, Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Chris Anderson said. Anderson said hes familiar with the area, he patrolled East Altamonte as a Deputy Sheriff a few years ago working for the Seminole County Sheriffs Office. He said that would be the largest early voting site in the county at 10,000 square feet with plenty of parking. Anyone registered in Seminole County will be able to vote at the new East Altamonte location.

Cold case: Mom hopes age-progression photo helps solve son’s disappearance
The mother of a man who’s been missing 20 years is requesting help in her son’s disappearance, Casselberry police said. Roy Brooks vanished the night of January 18, 2000. Police on Tuesday released an age-progressed photo of Brooks, who is now 41 years old. According to police, Brooks was last seen at a supermarket in Casselberry. The next morning, Brooks’ vehicle was found abandoned on Sun City Center Boulevard near Interstate 75 in Sun City Center, Fla.Brooks, a black man with brown eyes and dark hair, was 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 140 pounds when he disappeared.
2-alarm fire breaks out at Seminole County apartments
