PIERSON, Fla. – Two brothers were struck and killed by a train Wednesday night in Pierson, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 9:14 p.m. as the two men — 32-year-old Oscar Cardenas driving the vehicle with 20-year-old Jehu Cardenas riding as a passenger, both of Pierson — traveled east in a four-door Chevrolet on W. Washington Avenue from County Road 3, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

The driver attempted to cross the railroad and drive around the arm bars, both of which were active and working with lights, the post states. A train heading north then hit the vehicle, investigators said, adding both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details about the crash were shared or confirmed at the time of this report.
