ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – Two restaurant owners found themselves behind bars in Brevard County after a multi-state investigation into a gift card scam targeting elderly people.
Husband and wife Dongdong Ye and Mei Mei Dong, who own Da Sushi by the Aldi in Rockledge, are accused of tricking a 76-year-old man in Wisconsin into wiring them $10,000.
Investigators said Ye and Dong spent the money on a golf cart at the Rockledge Lowe’s.
There were also scam victims in Ohio and Michigan, including a woman who was 85 and sent the couple $75,000, the report continues.
Ye and Dong posted bond and left jail, and Friday, Dong answered the door at their home when Rockledge community correspondent James Sparvero knocked.
Dong said she couldn’t talk about the allegations.

“There’s no comments until we talk to a lawyer,” she said. “I can’t say anything.”
Da Sushi remains open.
The owners have a hearing in Brevard next week. Then, they may have to travel out of state to face their charges as the case proceeds.
