VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Four teens were arrested this week after deputies uncovered a strange robbery plot, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said the men had tried to set up the armed robbery by “posing as a girl on Instagram.”

Just before 1 a.m. on Monday, deputies were called to a home in Deltona after “a young man” came up to the front door, hid on their porch, and begged them to call 911, investigators reported.

“Deputies were on scene in about three minutes and learned the victim had tried to meet with a female he was talking to on Instagram,” the release reads. “Instead, he was met by four suspects who held him at gunpoint, took his iPhone and stole the keys to his dad’s truck.”

Close by, a deputy noticed a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the road, and two of the suspects were discovered catching a Lyft ride, deputies added.

Meanwhile, a handgun and extended magazine were found stashed under a seat, and the other two suspects surrendered out of the house where the Instagram meeting was set up, per investigators.

Two of the suspects were identified as twins Jayson and Josue Vargas, 17.

Meanwhile, the other two suspects included a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old, the latter of whom was already on an ankle monitor “with lots of adult charges,” deputies explained. News 6 has opted not to name them at this time.

“Great job deputies,” the release concludes. “Not so great job, parents.”
