Velez told deputies he called because he wanted a ride and was tired of walking.

One of two Deltona burglars was shot in the knee early Tuesday by a homeowner who caught the suspect rifling through his car, Volusia sheriffs investigators said. During the scuffle, the homeowner saw the suspect reach for his backpack, prompting the homeowner to fire his handgun at the suspect, Williams said. Braddock was driven to the hospital by a man, Darrell Ray Cantrell, 30 and a woman, Amy Eland, both of Deltona. An investigation revealed that Cantrell served as the lookout and getaway driver for Braddock, Williams said. Elands only involvement was to help stop Braddocks bleeding by using a belt as a tourniquet as they drove him to the hospital, Williams said.
