The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said a 67-year-old man died after he fell and was unable to escape rising floodwaters inside his home. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The driver during a crash that killed a 33-year-old Deltona woman is accused of driving with a suspended license and having a blood alcohol level of more than double the legal limit. Volusia County deputies said at the time of the crash that Carlos Palmer, 38, had a blood alcohol level of 0.259 and was traveling at least 63 mph in a 35 mph zone. Deputies said his license had also been suspended since 2010. Palmer is charged with DUI manslaughter and driving with a suspended license resulting in death. Palmer remains in custody at Volusia County Branch Jail with a total bond of $110,000.

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The man accused of killing his father and dumping his body near an Orange County Lake is expected to go before a judge Friday morning. Jonny Santiago, 18, of Deltona, is charged with the murder of his father, 52-year-old Juan Santiago. Juan Santiago had not been seen since Sunday when he flew from New York to Florida to check on his son Jonny. The sheriff’s office’s helicopter then chased him to Mount Dora, where he crashed into a synagogue before getting into a shootout with deputies. According to the family, they were able to access GPS data for Santiago’s truck on his wife’s phone.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Deltona man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he claimed he was robbed at gunpoint, but later admitted he made the whole thing up just to get a ride home. Deputies say 25-year-old Anthony Velez first contacted the sheriff’s office just after 6 a.m. Tuesday to report an armed robbery. While investigating the alleged robbery, deputies found surveillance video from a convenience store near where Velez had called 911. They also noted two marked Volusia County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars passed by Velez as he stood there and he never made an attempt to flag them down. Velez told deputies he called because he wanted a ride and was tired of walking.
