Deltona teens face burglary charges after viral TikTok door-kicking challenge

Surveillance video catches teens in viral door-kicking challenge, parents urged to take action

DELTONA, Fla. – Three teenagers in Volusia County are facing serious charges after they were caught on surveillance video kicking doors at Deltona homes — all part of a viral door-kicking challenge circulating on social media.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old were identified on surveillance footage last week. Two are charged with kicking the doors, while the third faces charges for acting as an accomplice.

One of the 13-year-olds confessed to deputies that the group had been kicked out of a church in Deltona before walking to Feather Drive, where they decided to try the challenge. The teens hit homes on three different streets.

Resident Mike Maser says the teens targeted the home of his son and daughter-in-law, who were inside with their baby when the kicking started.

“To hear that on a metal door, it really rattles you. You don’t know what’s going on,” Maser said.

“He happened to be pretty close to the door, and he saw the door, like, flex a little bit, so that’s scary,” Maser said.

The prank cost Maser’s family between $600 and $700 to replace the door and frame. He says the situation could have turned deadly.

“They want to be part of a club, they want to be cool and unfortunately, they don’t realize the consequences and ultimately, somebody could get shot,” Maser said.

The two 13-year-olds are facing charges of attempted occupied burglary and criminal mischief. The 14-year-old, who did not kick any doors, was already on home detention at the time of the incident.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood echoed Maser’s warning, saying the trend could cost a teenager their life.

“It’s going to be justifiable — I’m telling you now. Some poor person is going to have to live with that and some poor family is going to lose their kid over what? A TikTok challenge,” Chitwood said.

This is not an isolated incident. Chitwood estimates more than a dozen teens have been charged for participating in the door-kicking challenge in Volusia County so far in 2026. With summer break approaching, he’s urging parents to talk with their children about the dangers and legal consequences of taking part in viral social media challenges.

Maser says he’s relieved the teens are being held accountable.

“Make them learn that lesson. Sometimes lessons are hard to learn,” Maser said.
