Deltona parents accused of threatening teen with knife, gun return to court

Volusia deputies say couple threatened teen driver outside their home

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two Deltona parents accused of threatening a teenager with a knife and a gun returned to court for a bond hearing.

Rosa Lamourt Tiru and Lance Mulonas were arrested last week after Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies say the couple confronted a 16-year-old who had driven their teenage daughter home. Both have remained in jail since their arrests.

The judge ruled that Lamourt Tiru will be released on bond and fitted with a GPS monitor upon her release. Mulonas, however, must remain behind bars. The judge found his actions to be more calculated.

According to deputies, the incident began outside the couple’s Deltona home when Mulonas blocked the teen’s car in the driveway and struck the vehicle with a black metal pipe. He then allegedly held a knife to the teen’s neck. Lamourt Tiru reportedly stood in front of the vehicle, yelling and waving what the teen described to deputies as a small black handgun.

The Volusia County School District confirmed that Lamourt Tiru remains employed as a teacher with the district, but her status is expected to be discussed at a meeting next month.
