MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was arrested on Friday after his 17-year-old partner was fatally shot at a Marion County gas station, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a release on Monday, deputies said that the shooting happened around 2:24 p.m. on May 30 at the Petro gas station at Highway 318 and I-75.
Investigators explained that the man — identified as Henry Valencia, 23 — had gotten into a conversation with 17-year-old Nosiah Santos, whom deputies said was “in a relationship” with Valencia.
The pair arrived at the gas station together in the same vehicle, but while at a gas pump, they began arguing as Valencia became upset over Santos messaging other men, deputies added.
“During that argument, Valencia drove away from the pump, leaving Santos behind,” the release reads. “Moments later, Valencia parked, walked back to the pumps, and confronted Santos again.”
Valencia walked away and returned several times, continuing to argue with Santos, but when Santos appeared to disengage, Valencia drew a firearm and shot him, the sheriff’s office revealed.
“After the shooting, Valencia struck Santos several times in the head before returning to his vehicle and driving back to Jacksonville,” the release continues.
On Friday, deputies arrested Valencia, who now faces a charge of second-degree murder.
Footage of the arrest was also released by the sheriff’s office and can be watched at the top of this story.
