DELTONA, Fla. – A Deltona man is accused of trying to poison his ex-girlfriend, who discovered bleach in a bottle of vodka, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Edwin Guzman, 23, was arrested Monday on a charge of poisoning food or water.

According to an arrest affidavit, Guzman’s ex-girlfriend told deputies she went to pick up her items, including face products and a bottle of Tito’s vodka, from his home.

She took the items to her uncle’s home, where the two decided to take a shot of vodka “to calm their nerves,” the affidavit reads. The uncle immediately spit out the shot and said there was bleach in it.

Deputies asked the woman to call Guzman to see how bleach ended up in the bottle, according to the affidavit. While on the phone, Guzman was “heard admitting to putting bleach in the Titos bottle, along with some of her facial products.”

Deputies arrested Guzman at his home.

Guzman later posted bonded and was released from jail.
