CASSELBERRY, Fla. – The city of Casselberry is gearing up to celebrate the grand opening of its brand-new Wheel Park this Saturday.
The park has already become a favorite hangout for skateboarders, BMX riders, and anyone who loves wheeled sports, no matter their age or skill level. It’s shaping up to be a lively spot for the whole community.
Located on both sides of North Winter Park Drive, just south of Belle Avenue, the Wheel Park is part of a big city project funded by a $24 million parks bond approved in 2020. After more than 10 years in the works, the park is designed to welcome riders of all abilities and ages.
City Manager Randy Newlon says the investment is already paying off, attracting visitors from near and far.
“We’ve heard some stories about people who came all the way from Colorado because they heard about this new park experience,” Newlon said.
The park covers 10 acres, split into East and West sections, with over 40,000 square feet of skate and bike space. Among its features are:
- A BMX pump track
- Large and beginner bowls
- A street course with stairs, handrails, ledges, and wallrides
- A family zone featuring a “Tiny Town” bike safety area for kids ages 2 - 5
- A skills and pump track for kids ages 5 - 12
- An ADA-accessible playground with adaptive equipment so everyone can join in the fun
The West side includes a ceremonial lawn with a pavilion and restrooms, perfect for events, contests, and community gatherings.
Local skateboarder John Gau, who’s spent his life skating in Casselberry and now teaches his kids, shared how much the park means to him.
“Before this, we didn’t have many spots nearby. We often had to drive 30 - 40 minutes or skate street spots that weren’t always welcome,” Gau said. “It’s amazing to have a place where we can really be creative and have fun. Seeing my kids shred here with me—it’s the best feeling.”
The city invites everyone to come out this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for the grand opening. There will be pro skate and BMX demos, giveaways, live music, and plenty of fun activities for the family.
Until then, you’ll find folks like John and his kids enjoying the park and pushing their skills to the next level.
