Boy fell from 3rd-story window, police say

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – A 1-year-old boy fell from a third-story window Thursday morning at an apartment complex in Rockledge, according to the police department.

Police said first responders were called around 9:30 a.m. to Southgate Apartments, located off Fiske Boulevard.

The department said the boy was awake and coherent when first responders arrived.

Cpl. Alice Deakins told Brevard County community correspondent James Sparvero that the boy landed in the grass after the window was open to let some air into the apartment.

A woman who lives just across the hallway told Sparvero that the child fell through the screen of the window.

A Health First helicopter flew the boy to a hospital after the 30- or 40-foot fall.

Lisa Romans lives on the first floor of the apartment building.

“It’s really devastating to hear about that,” she said. “I’m so sorry for the family, and I hope the kid’s gonna be OK.”

Romans said she thinks the windows of the building are safe.

“I have my own kid, granted I’m on the first floor, but she hangs out by the window,” she said. “I just pray for them and hope that everything works out for them.”

The incident is still under investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as we receive it.
