EATONVILLE, Fla. – The Eatonville Police Department is searching for four people in a shootout that happened Tuesday evening in the Catalina Park subdivision.
The department received multiple 911 calls around 7:40 p.m. about “an active shootout” in the subdivision.
Witnesses told police four males with ski masks had firearms and had fled the area in separate vehicles.
No injuries have been reported. No other information, including possible ages for the four people, has been released.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is also assisting in the investigation.
Longtime resident Dollie McCall said she was lying in bed when she heard what sounded like gunshots. A bullet struck the side of her house, landing just inches away from her grandson’s bedroom window.
“That’s my bedroom right there, and you know, it’s kind of scary when something that close hit,” McCall told News 6. “I’ve been here about 52 years. This is the first time anything like this has happened.”
McCall and other residents said they are shaken by the violence and thankful no one was hurt.
Eatonville Police Chief Stanley Murray said officers have increased patrols in the area.
“This is an open area,” Murray said. “You have a playground for kids. It could have been a whole other situation.”
Valerie Chambers, who lives nearby, said she hopes the shooters are caught soon.
“That’s bad when you are around here just shooting up the neighborhood and then tomorrow you’re walking around like nothing happened,” she said. “Eventually, it’s going to come back and bite you.”
