Elderly Port Orange woman found dead in swimming pool, deputies say

Incident appears to be an accidental drowning, detectives said

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Deputies jumped into action after a 73-year-old Port Orange woman was found alone and unresponsive in her home’s swimming pool, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a release, deputies said that they responded to the home on Springwater Lane around 6:15 p.m. on Monday after receiving a report about the discovery.

“The victim’s husband found her alone and unresponsive in the deep end of the pool, pulled her out and called 911,” the release reads.

Investigators reported that the woman died due to accidentally drowning in the pool — a conclusion made after detectives looked through video surveillance of the incident.

“The victim had a history of medical issues and was known to use the swimming pool for water aerobics,” the release continues. “The sheriff’s office sends its sincere condolences to this grieving husband and family for their loss.”
