WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After more than two years on the run, an attempted murder suspect was taken into custody Friday, according to the Winter Haven Police Department.
Police said D’Architray L. Sapp, 27, was wanted on an attempted first-degree murder warrant.

According to a news release, Sapp was located around 8:19 p.m. at the Abbey Lane Apartments located at 100 Evergreen Place.

Police said when they arrived, they saw Sapp in the area of building nine inside of the complex and when the suspect saw the officers, he ran inside an apartment.
According to the release, officers confirmed Sapp was still inside the apartment and moved quickly to evacuate nearby residents, according to the release.
Officers confirmed that Sapp was still inside and took steps to evacuate people near the apartment. When Sapp exited the apartment, officers placed Sapp’s hands behind his back in an attempt to arrest him.
However, as officers tried to arrest Sapp, he yanked his arms in front of his body and started to run away.
“As he ran, he purposely ran into a female officer shoving her with his shoulder knocking her to the ground. Sapp continued to run defying lawful commands to stop,” the release read in part.
Winter Haven police said that two officers shocked Sapp with their Tasers, allowing them to finally arrest him.

The officer who was knocked to the ground was not injured during the encounter.
Sapp faces charges related to the outstanding Polk County warrants that include attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing to elude, giving false information to law enforcement, knowingly driving while license suspended and criminal mischief.
According to the release, he also faces new charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.
“I am thankful that our officers were not injured during the encounter with this violent felon,” Police Chief Vance Monroe said in a Facebook post. “Our officers did an outstanding job ensuring Sapp was taken off the street and put behind bars where he belongs.”
Sapp was taken to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center.
