SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Red Bull is teaming up with local leaders to build a “roller coaster” obstacle course in Altamonte Springs.
The Red Bull Tandem Roller Coaster is an acclaimed European event that will come to the United States for the first time Sept. 27 at Cranes Roost Park.
The event challenges two-person teams to design and build creative, non-motorized crafts on a tandem bicycle frame and navigate a roller coaster obstacle course over water.
Teams will be judged on creativity, showmanship, and time. The team with the highest score wins.
“To get your bike from point A to point B without falling into the water seems to be what’s going to get that person the first-place prize, but I think along the way we’re going to have some funny spills and definitely some good times,” Red Bull Athlete Guenther Oka said.

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, which promises to be an economic driver for the area.
“This is yet another sports event that will be a feather in our cap as we move forward,” Seminole County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jay Zembower said. “This helps our business people in this time of year where there’s not a lot going on.”
While the event is still several weeks away, teams of two seeking to participate are invited to submit bold and creative designs.
“I think it’s really open to anybody who’s got that vision. Who’s got a little bit of grit and maybe a little bit of nerve to go and tackle this course,” Oka said.
The deadline for submissions is August 15 and the 40 participating teams will be announced August 25.
