Ocoee officer shoots driver of stolen vehicle, police say

Police respond to area of 301 West Road

OCOEE, Fla. – An Ocoee officer shot the driver of a stolen vehicle around noon Sunday, according to the police department.

Officers located the vehicle around 11:30 a.m. while looking for it in the area of 301 West Road, near the Publix at the roadway’s intersection with Ocoee Apopka Road, the Ocoee Police Department said in a statement.

The person behind the wheel of the vehicle allegedly drove it in the direction of an approaching officer in an attempt to elude and strike them, the statement reads.

At that time, an officer shot the driver of the vehicle, police said.

The driver was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition at last check, according to the statement. No officers were injured, police said.
