ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County Supervisor of Elections announced on Friday a printing error on thousands of sample ballots for the upcoming Special General Election in Senate District 15 and House District 40.

According to a social media post by the Orange County SOE, the sample ballot mailed to voters incorrectly listed Travaris McCurdy as the Democratic candidate in the House District 40 race instead of RaShon Young. Young defeated McCurdy 55.43% to 44.57% in a special primary on June 24.

Young will face Republican Tuan Le, an engineer and former congressional candidate, and write-in candidate Christopher Hall on Sept. 2.

“This error only appears on sample ballots mailed to voters who did not request a vote-by-mail ballot. All vote-by-mail ballots and in-person voting ballots are correct and list the certified candidates accurately,” according to the social media post by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections.

“The Orange County Supervisor of Elections office takes full responsibility for this mistake. We have tracked the error and found it originated in our office during artwork creation for the printing process,” said Blake Summerlin, a spokesperson for the Supervisor’s office. “The office is taking immediate action to correct it by mailing a “Notice of Printing Error”to all affected voters, along with a rectified Sample Ballot.”

Officials said affected voters should anticipate the correct sample ballot to be delivered prior to early voting, which begins on Aug. 23.

The correct sample ballot can be found here.

The supervisor of elections office put together a Q&A on how the error happened which can be found here.
