Sisters seek justice for murdered mom of 10 in Orange County

Latoysia Davis, 34, was shot and killed near 20th Street

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – “It was almost like a flashback. I just started thinking about my mom — how is this happening again? How is this happening again?” said Sasha Thompson, the sister of Latoysia Davis.

Davis — a 34-year-old mother of ten — was shot and killed this week in Orange County. Her killer is still on the loose.

Her sisters say they want justice, especially because their own mother was murdered years ago, and that case was never solved.

It happened off 20th Street in Orlando, where deputies found Davis shot to death.

“The call that I got was, ‘Your sister got shot.’ I knew if I could get there, I could save her,” said Thompson.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found Davis dead at the scene around 2 a.m. Saturday, and investigators are still searching for her killer.

Her sisters, Sasha Thompson and Natisha Varela, say this is tragic history repeating itself.

“I’m 36 years old. This happened to our mom when I was 14. I still walk around in fear, wondering who it was,” Varela said.

They don’t want Davis’ ten children to grow up the same way.

“You could be standing next to him in the grocery store… holding the door for him. That’s a hard way to live,” said Thompson.

They described Davis as the glue that held their family together.

“She’d fall out with somebody, then say, ‘That’s my dog, that’s baby mama, my sister.’ You had to accept it — that was her heart,” Varela said.

Now, her children face going back to school without their mom.

“I lost my mom at a very young age. It hits you at different points in life. It’s going to be a long journey for them,” said Thompson.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for Davis’ funeral expenses and to support her ten children.
