ORLANDO, Fla. – More than 2,000 volunteers are expected to come together Saturday and help with the third annual Light Orlando Hunger Drive at the Central Florida Fairgrounds.
The project is a one-day event, expected to pack 1 million meals for people and families facing food insecurity across Central Florida.
Light Orlando organized the event and will be assisted by the Åcahand Foundation. The event is open to people of all ages who want to help make a difference.
Troy Wright, a program officer at Light Orlando, said hunger does not discriminate.
“It affects children, seniors, and working families throughout our region,” he said. “This project gives the community a chance to come together in one day to deliver real help to real people.”

Last year, volunteers packed over 1 million meals which were sent out to more than 40 local nonprofit and charity organizations.
This year’s goal is the same, one million meals in one day.
“The need to address hunger is more important than ever,” said Rick Whitted, president and CEO of US Hunger. “It requires the type of commitment and collaboration Light Orlando brings to the table. We are proud to support this effort and the incredible volunteers behind it.”
The event has two shifts, one from 8:30 a.m. to noon and a second from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Volunteers can register for one or both shifts and all ages are welcome.
