THE VILLAGES, Fla. – A man arrested Wednesday in The Villages is accused of assaulting multiple people, trying to steal cars and even shooting into a vehicle during a crime spree, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Alan Grant, 48, faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, failure to register as a felon, criminal mischief over $1,000, shooting into an occupied vehicle, two counts of armed carjacking, two counts of battery, two counts of kidnapping and seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Deputies responded around 8:15 p.m. to multiple calls about an armed man trying to enter vehicles at the Walgreens and the Colony Cottage Recreation Center along Colony Boulevard, the release states.
Grant is accused of brandishing a gun and threatening citizens, at one point shooting into an occupied vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. He allegedly pointed the gun at multiple people and tried to carjack some of them at the Walgreens and at the recreation center before being taken into custody without further incident, according to the release.
A loaded FN Herstal 9mm pistol was found on Grant’s person, deputies said. Detectives determined several victims were assaulted, threatened at gunpoint, and moved against their will, the release states.
Grant is being held on no bond at the Sumter County Detention Center, according to the release.
Deputies did not immediately say whether anyone was injured.
