DOH reports 2 new deaths from COVID-19, dramatic rise in cases in Sumter

LEESBURG Two more area residents have died from the COVID-19 coronavirus and Sumter County had its largest one-day increase in confirmed positive cases since its first reported case last month. The Lake resident who died was a 77-year-old Lake man who tested positive on April 15 for COVID-19. The DOH also reported 36 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in Sumter County. Included in Sumters total confirmed cases are results from the Sumter Correctional Institution in Bushnell. Leaders said certain in-person services in the county will begin to slowly open Monday, while others will remain limited or closed through May 31.
