FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A New York man is accused throwing glass bottles inside a Palm Coast liquor store when the store clerk refused to sell more alcohol to him, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened Wednesday after 2 p.m. at Sharps Discount Liquors in Palm Coast.
According to the sheriff’s office, 38-year-old Jeffrey Kimmel had purchased four liquor shots before returning to the store to buy more liquor. The store clerk refused to sell him more alcohol, and Kimmel began screaming at her, deputies say. He jumped on the counter and started kicking items off of it, the sheriff’s office said.
The store clerk and other customers then locked themselves in a back room to get away from him, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies were told he had a large knife in his waistband and was spitting and throwing glass bottles onto the floor.
When deputies arrived, Kimmel was still on the courter and acting erratic, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies had to remove him from the counter and took him outside, where he was kicking and screaming and spitting at deputies, officials said. Deputies put a spit mask over Kimmel’s head to protect themselves from the spit.
The sheriff’s office said the damage is estimated at $20,000.
Kimmel was arrested on charges of breach of peace, burglary, burglary with assault or battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and criminal mischief.
He is currently being held on a $236,000 bond.
