MOUNT DORA, Fla. – The city of Mount Dora is hosting a workshop on Monday to discuss options for improving downtown parking.
Over the last year, the city has been focusing on parking solutions by bringing in “Freebee,” a free shuttle service within the Community Redevelopment Agency boundaries, to help people get around.
Mayor James Homich said parking availability is one of the most pressing issues for downtown and that it’s important to work toward improving the situation.
“We’re gathering a community consensus to move forward with some ideas to try to alleviate some of the problems and make it more convenient for people visiting the downtown,” Homich said.

During Monday’s meeting, there will be a discussion on reconfiguring parking spaces to address public safety concerns.
Another option under consideration is converting Alexander Street, Baker Street, and Tremain Street to one-way streets.
“We have historic streets that are narrower than the modern streets, so they don’t accommodate two-way traffic and parking,” Homich said.
The city is also considering paid parking in some areas of downtown, which would help fund the shuttle service that was launched in October 2024.
“Our goal is to not only explore long-term solutions for parking but also to address public safety,” Mount Dora City Manager Vince Sandersfeld said. “Aside from the discussion about paid parking, this project aims to eliminate safety issues associated with the current parking layout while planning responsibly for the city’s future needs.”
The public is encouraged to attend and provide input on the proposed options during the workshop on Monday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, located at 510 N Baker Street.
