VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Volusia Sheriff’s Office on Thursday announced an arrest in a fatal, single-vehicle crash that occurred about a year prior.

Briannah Ortiz, 19, of DeLand, faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

She was arrested Wednesday in connection to a crash on Aug. 3, 2024, in the 2600 block of Howland Blvd., the post states.

The crash caused the death of a 33-year-old Deltona woman who was riding as the front passenger in the 2018 Nissan Sentra that Ortiz was driving around 2 a.m. that day, the sheriff’s office said.

A recently-completed investigation shows Ortiz was driving the Nissan recklessly before crashing it into a concrete pole, the post states.

Ortiz has since posted $50,000 bond.
