‘Done everything she’s supposed to do:’ Cocoa Beach party teacher in court to get off probation

Karly Anderson convicted of resisting, disorderly intoxication at principal’s house party with 100 teens

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The former teacher who said on body camera she was hanging out at a party with more than a hundred teenagers thinks she’s been punished enough.

Karly Anderson was convicted of resisting an officer and disorderly intoxication the night of an underage party at the principal’s house went back to court Wednesday in an attempt to get off probation.

In May, Judge Kim Musselman sentenced Anderson, formerly of Teddy Roosevelt Elementary, to a year of probation.

But earlier this month, Cocoa Beach Community Correspondent James Sparvero talked to Anderson’s attorney who said the ex-teacher had already satisfied the term of her probation.

Ken Weaver hoped to make that argument to Judge Ben Garagozlo, but all of a sudden, the judge postponed the hearing to next week.

The court was waiting on a ruling to give Anderson back the $500 she was ordered to give the Children’s Advocacy Center.

Weaver argued that while the party involved minors, Anderson’s charges did not.

“She’s done everything she’s supposed to do,” the defense attorney said. “It’s time for her probation to be terminated.”

Anderson didn’t talk to reporters after court, so Sparvero asked Weaver about her intentions.

“I don’t know what Karly wants to do,” Weaver answered about whether Anderson wants to teach again.

He then said, “No,” when asked if the ex-teacher had been treated fairly during her prosecution. Anderson is also appealing her conviction.

Trial for the former principal who hosted the party, Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan, is not scheduled yet.
