DELTONA, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was shot and killed early Monday at a Deltona condominium, according to sheriff’s officials.
The shooting was reported around 1 a.m. on Orchid Woods Court near Perimeter Drive.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, multiple people reported hearing gunshots and screaming at the condo complex.
Deputies located the victim, identified as 21-year-old Joseph Whitmer, outside the doorway of a second-floor unit. He was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
The sheriff’s office said the gunman was captured on video from a doorbell camera, and deputies were able to get a “detailed suspect description.”
About 15 minutes later, a deputy spotted a person who matched the description and took them into custody nearby.
According to the sheriff’s office, a black sling bag seen on the shooter’s shoulder in the doorbell video was tracked down by a K-9 unit. The bag contained a loaded handgun, extra ammunition and other weapons.
Deputies later identified the person taken into custody as 49-year-old Brian Whittaker, who is a resident of another unit in the complex.
Whittaker faces charges of first-degree murder.
An investigation is ongoing.
