VIDEO: Orange County deputies rescue child with autism from retention pond

Boy taken to hospital for evaluation

ORLANDO, Fla. – Two Orange County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday rescued a child with autism from a deep retention pond.

Video released Monday by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office shows Cpl. Andrew Pupo and Deputy Noel De Jesus jumping into the pond to pull the boy to safety.

The child was reunited with his parents and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

In a Facebook post, sheriff’s officials said, “Protecting the most vulnerable in our community often means putting their own safety second. Every day, deputies are prepared to risk their own safety to save others.”
